Recently a book has been making the rounds and causing interesting discussions at churches, seminaries, coffee shops and bible studies. The book is Rob Bell's "Love Wins". I sat down and read it a couple of weeks ago. I was challenged by a number of the questions that Rob was asking. I was concerned at some of the conclusions the book seemed to make. But mostly I was reminded that we just don't talk about hell a whole lot. What do we know about hell? What does the bible really say, verses just what someone told us the bible says? I was challenged ( and am still being challenged) to really dig in and see for myself.
In the late 1700's and early 1800's holiness was all the rage. Jonathan Edwards, John Wesley ( both born on the same day) and George Whitfield were pushing the holiness banner pretty hard. They saw the potential for impacting the emerging nation that would become the USA. Part of their mandate came from I Peter 1:15 "Just as He who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do.
